My latest bride – Sarah

The latest images from one of my brides have finally come through.

After 8 years of doing wedding makeup and not much of a portfolio to show for it I have finally been (politely) chasing my brides for some pictures of their very special day. It’s hard, the day comes and goes, they go on a honey moon and then finally the photographer gets them some shots back but by this time I’m far from their thoughts and their beautiful married lives go on.. and I kick myself for not following up for a photo.

As much as I want the images to display my work I also love seeing the brides all dressed in their stunning gowns on the happiest day of their lives. I get to do the trials and spend the morning making them look absolutely stunning on the happiest and most important days of their lives but then I leave and the fun begins.. I love seeing the finished look, complete with designer gowns and priceless smiles of love and happiness. So I am slowly filling up my portfolio and here is a sneak of the latest images I received of a bride from earlier this year Sarah. Click on an image to bring up a larger slideshow.

Smokin’ Eyes

Do you want to know how to do sexy bedroom eyes, have you tried but it comes out more like panda eyes?  Well it’s relatively easy to get the smokin’ hot look you are after, and like anything it will take practise.
First you’ll need a few items:

  1. Three shades of eyeshadow works best.  They don’t have to be all blacks and greys; you can work with a variety of colors as long as they suit your skin tones. Try to have at least one dark brown to black tone though.
  2. You will need a steady hand and some time to play, think of it as pre-going out “me time.”   Once you get it down pat you could even throw a glass of wine!
  3. You’ll also need a decent mirror and 2-3 different sized eye brushes, brushes range from quite cheap to quite expensive depending on what budget you have.

So now your set!

  1. Start by applying a highlight color to your upper lid. This gives your eyes an added illusion of size.  If you have a crème eye shadow you can put this on first as it will provide a perfect base for your shadow to last longer.
  2. Apply the second, color from your lashes to the crease area of your lid. Be sure to blend the mid color and the lightest color to avoid any harsh lines between the two.
  3. Apply the darkest color along the lashes and get thicker, as you wish, the further towards the end of the lid. Now blend the dark color with the medium colour and thicken and darken as you please.
  4. Smudge with a fine brush the dark colour under your lower eyelid, you may need to practise this a few times to get a feel for how think and dark you like it under your eyes.  You can also create a real cats eyes effect by taking the dark into the inner part of your lid, the fine space between your lashes and eyeball.
  5. Take a highlighter and blend into the inner corners of your eyes, near the base of the bridge of your nose and lightly blend along your brow.
  6. Follow this up with a good, quality mascara and some light powder over your brows and you will have a set of sexy eyes to show off to just about anybody.

Make me up

My business on the side is as a makeup artist and providing spray tanning services.  Both of which are not bad talents to have being a female !

I have been doing wedding and fashion makeup for around 5 years now and I love it!  It is fun, easy money and you get to meet loads of nice people from all walks of life.  What better weekend job to have than making people look amazing for their weddings, fashion shoots or nights on the town, sometimes it can be stressful but mostly it’s possibly the best job one could do on Saturday’s!

Most of my work comes from referrals but lately I have been trying to get my portfolio pics updated and stocked.  Most of the time if I take the photo on the job the makeup is just not the same unless it’s partnered with the designer look (hair and outfit.)  People generally don’t email you their photos after the event like they say they will, which is OK people are busy, but it made me decide to do a photoshoot with my hairdresser sister and her photographer husband.  Good connections to have huh! =-)

This was the result of the shoot!

Thanks so much to all that were involved in a long, sweltering hot but successful day!
